Listed amongst the “100 most beautiful detours of France”, the village of Charlieu located less than 20 kilometres from our ACE Hotel, is worth exploring on a number of counts. The Benedictine abbey must be seen. The grand gate, whose décor was inspired by the book of the Apocalypse, is a masterpiece of XII century Roman art. Extend your walk and head to the Silk Museum to explore this shrine to gorgeous silk fabrics used in haute couture. The more scientific among you will enjoy a visit to the Hospital Museum, which has a splendid apothecary, a listed Historic Monument. In our eyes, Charlieu really is a “cher lieu” (dear place).
